Daily 5-Work on Writing

This year instead of having students continue to work on their stories that we started during writing workshop I decided to change things up a bit.  So I ordered students green folders to match their green book boxes. :-)  During Work on Writing they can put their writing pieces in this folder and keep it separate from their writing workshop folders, which are blue.

Here are our Work on Writing Folders

Here are our Book Boxes

What else is different....I give them story starters!! They are loving coloring the pictures and creating their own stories to go along with them.

Here are the Halloween story starters that I will put out next week.  Grab them here for FREE.

I am also going to start using my huge stock pile of sticker. Then students can write sticker stories.  This is so simple!!! All you do is put 2-3 stickers on a sheet of writing paper and students add the setting and the words to tell the story. Grab a blank sticker story paper HERE!

Favorite October Books

I was switching out books in my thematic library today and found some of these.  I can't wait to share these wonderful books with my class.

What are your favorite October books?

Monster of a Favor

One of my good friends teaches pre-k and when we found these adorable monster buckets at Target we just had to do something with them.  For her I created an uppercase/lowercase letter sort.  But for me I am not sure.  What games would you like for these adorable monster containers?

You can grab the uppercase/lowercase letter sort on my TpT site.

Oh how they have grown....

I am lucky enough to have a student intern this fall and by lucky I mean it is awesome!!! We are both able to pull small groups during Daily 5. Today we were talking about how much our kiddos have grown in their reading over the past week.  So today I decided to share a couple of things that are working for us.

Up first is the planning template that we use.  You can grab your free copy here.

We have been spending a lot of time rhyming these last few weeks.  This week we have been playing Rolling Apples!

As for books we would be no where with out Reading A to Z.  Just love them and the selection of books that they have. If you have not checked out Reading A to Z it is worth it. I promise.

I am still new with this awesome F&P calculator but it is really coming in handy!

We have only introduced 2 but our kiddos are really catching on to the strategies and it is showing in their reading.

Up Next for next week we will be working on using our sight words to write sentences.  I think we will be using the mini dry erase boards so that we are saving paper.  We will also be working on counting syllables by playing my newest game Alligator Chomp!!! Check it out on TpT
