Little Cloud

I loved this activity during our weather unit.  And it was simple.  We started by researching clouds on PebbleGo and created a cloud circle map.  When we were done students wrote one fact they learned about clouds on their own mini cloud.  Then we mixed shaving cream and liquid glue in equal parts.  Once it was all mixed together they painted with it on their blue paper to make a cloud.  I can't tell you how much fun they had.  The shaving cream/glue drys puffy so their paintings really did look like clouds.

Writing with PB&J

To kick off our "How to..." writing unit I decided that we should make Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches.  This was a great way to get them interested in writing "How to..." stories.  They wanted to write them for days.

Do you teach "How to..." writing? How do you kick off your unit?
